Citizen Kane
Lately in class we've been talking a lot about Imperialism and Manifest Destiny, in which America conquered and slaughtered thousands of people to make use of their economic resources. Professor Kaplan mentioned Hearst, the yellow journalist who fabricated causes for the Spanish-American War. Citizen Kane, which many film critcis cite as one of the best movies ever made, is loosely based off of Hearst's career and life, and greatly conveys how simple it was for Hearst to create this war. In the film, Hearst's character, Kane, says "you provide the prose poems; I'll provide the war". This man made a fortune off of his yellow journalism, and started a war to boost his own profits. Without his influence, many lives could have been saved.
