Cirque du Soleil and Barnstorming

Over winter break I went to Cirque du Soleil, Kurios with my family. It was one of the most exciting and entertaining shows I have ever seen. Similar to barnstorming, Cirque du Soleil exhibits the multifaceted nature of the performers.  The music, costumes, theatrics and acrobatic routines of Kurios were used as tools to display the innovation and curiosity of the Industrial Revolution. As an activity of recreation and entertainment, barnstorming helped define the social changes of the "roaring twenties" and the first wave of feminism. Kurios and barnstorming overlap in the sense that they are both forms of expressionist artistry, capitalizing on social and technological change.
