American Sublime
In David E. Nye’s, “The American Sublime”, the idea of technology advancing America is explained. In this piece, technology refers to canals, architecture, agricultural advances instead of the computerized technology that we refer to today. Nye uses examples such as the first transcontinental railroad and the Brooklyn Bridge as examples of America’s “technological sublime.” Nye’s reference of technology as these architectural structures and (at that times) most advanced means of transportation was interesting to me because today we refer to technology as the latest Apple products. This piece made me think of the growth that America has gone through throughout just these few decades.
